Now, in fact, when I go to create a new CF Project, I get the same error message.

Delete the entire contents of the Corecon directory. open the .csproj file in notepad (Not .csproj.USER) Locate the line
This directory is located under %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft. If you're having a computer problem, ask on our forum for advice. When I select this device, Delete is disabled selecting Properties shows this error: Error retrieving information from user datastore. Last option, if you don't have time to download and install SDK, or don't wanna import the source code and resolve all the warning and errors.

In Visual Studio, after selecting Tools > Options > Device Tools > Devices, my devices are all listed correctly. If this is Web project you need to install Visual Studio 2005 SP1 which is adding full support for Web Projects.
